Tour Brisbane and the South East Queensland Coast
Brisbane is the perfect summer travel hub. The city itself features everything a modern city should while still maintaining a friendly community atmosphere. You would hardly believe that Brisbane is Australia's third largest city! It's only a short drive north to the Sunshine Coast or south to the Gold Coast to find pristine beaches that stretch on as far as the eye can see.
South Bank is the cultural, social and recreational heart of Brisbane City. Locals and tourists alike spend hours walking along the riverside esplanade and the bougainvillea-covered arbour, enjoying alfresco dining and soaking up the sun at the artificial beach popular with families. Take a drive up Mt Coot-tha for the best city views and a guided walk through the lush Botanical Gardens. If you're feeling adventurous, drive to Kangaroo Point for the Story Bridge Adventure Climb and abseiling down the rocky riverside cliff.

If the bright city lights become too much for you, hop into your campervan and head two hours north to the Sunshine Coast. Secluded beaches and thick, lush trees provide the perfect hideaway for you to relax and wind down. As a popular camping destination you'll have your pick of campsites. Noosa and Mooloolaba are the main tourist towns, but make the most of the freedom that your campervan gives you and stray off the beaten track. Settle down in a small suburban coast town for a few days for that authentic beach camping experience. No visit to the Sunshine Coast is complete without a day at the iconic Australia Zoo, a fantastic wildlife experience for any age.
Just an hour south from Brisbane is the Gold Coast, Queensland's second largest city. Its lush hinterland and stunning surf beaches have made this an internationally renowned destination with many tourists flocking to Surfers Paradise, where the city literally meets the surf. Burleigh Heads and Coolangatta are also favourites for swimmers and surfers, both located to the south of Surfers Paradise.
The Gold Coast Hinterland is an idyllic retreat to explore lush rainforest and waterfalls. Lookouts across the top of the mountain range offer breathtaking views of the rainforest, the city and the ocean. Not far inland along the New South Wales border, Stanthorpe is a popular winter destination with over fifty wineries in addition to stonefruit and apple orchards. Stay in a quaint cottage and sit by a roaring fireplace at night while surrounded with peaceful bushland.
South West Queensland
Drive into the heart of Queensland to experience the outback. Your hired campervan is perfect for a stay at Takarakka Bush Resort in Carnarvon Gorge, an oasis full of wondrous naturally formed structures and alive with the calls of wild birds. You can spend days exploring the gorge with walks suitable for all abilities, the most notable the Boolimba Bluff Walk for a clear panoramic gorge view.
Further West lies the dusty outback town Charleville, where you'll be struck by the vastness of the flat plains and the night sky lit up with stars that can't be seen in the city. Have a chat to the friendly locals and drive through the outback past sheep and cattle stations, stopping along the famous Warrego River for a picnic or a spot of fishing to really live the outback life.
Beef capital of Australia Rockhampton was built on the wealth of the gold rush, with plenty of history and natural sights. From here it's just a short drive to the Capricorn Coast and the Great Barrier Reef. Mackay is a popular tourist destination, unique for its rainforest-backed beaches. Snorkel or dive on the Great Barrier Reef or browse the prolific community art and hundreds of local shopping outlets. Take your campervan to uncover the hidden treasures of Airlie Beach, gateway to the Whitsundays. With clear, calm waters interrupted only by yachts, the town of Airlie Beach overlooks Pioneer Bay and offers something for everyone from water sports and skydiving to crocodile safaris.
Cairns is famous as the main destination for Great Barrier Reef tourism. Take a day trip to one of the tropical islands just off shore or explore the lush tropical rainforest of Lake Placid Tourist Park. Another excellent place near the Reef is Townsville, with its most notable attractions Magnetic Island and Mission Beach. For a change in scenery, head away from the coast and explore the historic gold rush town Charters Towers.
