Victoria Touring Ideas: Gippsland
If it is diversity you are after in your touring holiday then Gippsland in the east of Victoria is the perfect destination for you. A large rural region that stretches east of Melboune to the New South Wales border, you could fill a thousand camper holidays travelling through this scenic part of the world. Mountainous snow fields merge into rugged wilderness and then rainforests and farmland before stretching to the pristine beaches that border the state.
The whole of Gippsland is accessible because the Hume Highway runs through the region, so take advantage of this when you hire a camper and travel through Victoria. This article gives you a more comprehensive idea of where to go in the region. A definite port-of-call should be the Gippsland Lakes, Australia's most exclusive water system. Consisting of three large lakes and all the waterways that flow into them, these are perfect for sailing, boating and fishing the whole year round. The town of Lakes Entrance is seen as the gateway to the lakes, and is also a great destination in itself. A mecca for surfers and fishermen, this town is also located on the infamous Ninety Mile Beach that stretches down the coast of Victoria and is something that should be seen by all visitors.

The National Parks of Gippsland are responsible for attracting a lot of the states visitors every year, and for good reason. Twelve seperate National Parks range from rainforest to marine parks, meaning there is something here for everyone no matter what the season. Wilsons Promontory NP is not to be missed, as it is home to the largest coastal wilderness area in Victoria, and its coastal wilderness is diverse, interesting and beautiful. The Croajingolong NP is probably the next most visited, and is always remembered for its white beaches and rugged headlands.

Phillip Island, which is just 140 kilometres from Melbourne, is a perfect opportunity for a day trip or a few days stopover when you hire a camper from us. A breeding point for penguins and home to thousands of seals, there is no shortage of wildlife to be seen here. Natural attractions, heritage centres and museums are sure to fill your days with fun and excitement!
