Alice Springs Touring Ideas
|
Welcome to Alice Springs, the most famous Australian outback town and the most visited
one in our harshly beautiful 'red centre'. Hiring a campervan here is your ticket into another
world, a world of vivid colours, desert skies and amazing wildlife. With stunning mountain
ranges nearby and numerous deep waterholes providing respite from the heat and sun, the
touring options in this region are endless. And with the attractions of the town itself
seemingly endless, we are positive your holiday here will be a memorable one.

The town is a testament to the bravery and spirit of the early pioneers who chose to forge their lives in the Australian outback. As such, the
streets here are steeped in history, so to immerse yourself in our pioneer past pay a visit to the original flying doctor station, or the old
telegraph station. If you have kids then they will love the Reptile Centre, which is an educational and exciting look into the world of poisonous
snakes, goannas and all types of lizard! Kids will also be blown away by 'The Spirit of the Night Sky', which is an interpretation of the
southern sky at night. This award winning presentation is enthralling and will change your perspectives on our postion in the universe! for
more information on things like these to do in and around Alice Springs, have a read of this article of ours.
When you hire one of our campers you should give serious thought to visiting the West Macdonnell Ranges. The rugged high peaks and
jagged gorges of these impressive mountains provide you with a magnificent example of the beauty of the Australian interior. They stretch for
160 kilometres west of Alice Springs, so the drive is not too long yet the rewards are plentiful. Most of the attractions have camping grounds
nearby, so there is always a place to park and bunk down for the night. Dont miss Simpsons Gap, where the Roe River runs
through a narrow gorge with steep high walls. There is a large rock pool at the Gap, that makes for refreshing relief from the heat.
Another popular spot in West Macdonnell is Serpentine Gorge, which is unique because it has a large billabong that can only be accessed by
swimming up the gorge, which makes for an exciting adventure! The whole of the ranges is rich in indigenous heritage, and for a taste of this
visit the Ochre Pits, which is an old quarry where the local Aboriginals used to harvest their ochre pigments from. Glen Helen Gorge is
normally the final port of call of a visit here, before you turn your campervan round and head back to base. There is accommodation
and camping sites for hire here, and your hosts will undoubtedly make you feel very welcome. On teh way back you can stop in at all of the
places you didnt have time to see n the way here.
