Travel Blogger Q&A ~ Off The Path & Zig Zag Mag

  • About you: I started the German adventure travel blog off-the-path.com in 2011 and I’m a real adventurer. I love everything extreme. In my life, there simply is no comfort zone! Just a couple of weeks ago my book has been published where I put all my knowledge and best tips together. Beside adventures I’m a meat lover and prefer burgers and steaks over salad and vegetables.
  • Name: Sebastian Canaves
  • Travel Experience: I’ve lived in almost 10 countries so far, including Australia, and visited nearly 100! My last trip was to New Zealand, one of my most favourite countries I’ve seen so far.

What is one ‘hidden gem’ destination well worth visiting?

I guess the area around Exmouth isn’t exactly a hidden gem. However, it is pretty remote and we loved exploring the little bays and the national park. It just has so much to offer. We even went out to swim with whale sharks which definitely was one of our highlights on our recent trip to WA.

What do you find special about this place?

For me the variety of nature makes this place so special. From sand dunes to turquoise beaches you’ll find everything around Exmouth. Watch dolphins during sunset, swim with whale sharks, watch emus run in their natural environment or watch sharks patrol around the reefs!

When is the best time of year to visit?

We visited Exmouth in March, which is a really good time as it’s still pretty empty. The whale shark season officially starts in April and it can get pretty crowded. During off season you’ll find cheap accommodation and have many places to yourself!
