If the customer wishes to change the drop-off destination after the rental has commenced, they must first obtain
authorisation from Reservations. Subject to the change being approved, an additional
charge of up to AU$550 may apply.
If the customer wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, they must first obtain
authorisation from Reservations. This is
subject to availability. The extra cost of an extended rental must be paid by credit
card over the telephone on confirmation
of the rental extension. Failure to obtain authorisation will result in a daily fee
of AU$150 in addition to the daily rate.
Austraila legislation provides limited coverage for personal injury. We strongly
recommend that all poeple travelling in Austraila take out Personal Travel
Insurance.
All Vehicles are insured for the damage to the vehicle or to the property of a Third
Party. The hirer is responsible for the first AU$7,500 (excess) of ANY ACCIDENT COST
of damage to Third Party property or to the rented vehicle, including single vehicle
accident, windscreen and tyre damage, overhead and underbody damage, towing and
recovery costs, theft, fire, break in or vandalism with the exception of the
exclusions.
This also includes the cost of the daily rental rate for the period the vehicle is
off fleet for accident repairs (demurrage). The excess applies in respect of each
claim, not rental.
This Standard Excess can be reduced by purchasing one of the following options at
the depot:

No Worries Cover:
The No Worries cover option is a one off fee of AU$50 per hire for 2WD vehicles and AU$120 for 4WD vehicles. The cover is only
available when excess reduction 2 has been purchased.
Note the no worries cover option is included in the Stress Free Package.
With the no worries cover option, the hirer will not have to pay any excess at all
for any damage to the vehicle or property of a third party with the exception of the
exclusions. This will inlcude accidental overhead or underbody damage to the
vehicle. Please note overhead and underbody damage cover is excluded unless the no
worres cover option has been purchased.
Tyre and Windscreen Damage:
Where the hire has a nil excess up to one windscreen and two tyres will be covered
for accidental damage. Should these amounts be exceeded the cost to repair or
replace the items will not be covered and will be the responsibility of the
hirer.
Exclusions:
All insurance cover will be made void if any of the following Exclusions are
breached:
- Overhead and underbody damage to the vehicle- except where no worries cover has
been purchased.
- Any water related damage, which includes but is not limited to:
- any vehicle submersion
- creek or river crossing
- driving through low plain flooded areas
- beach driving
- Personal belongings: we recommend the hirer does not leave valuables in the
vehicle and that they take out personal insurance.
- Any damage caused by willful misconduct (e.g. sitting or standing on the bonnet
or roof of the vehicle) and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- A single vehicle roll over occurs.
- The incorrect use of fuel or the use of Bio Diesel which should not be used (fuel being diesel or petrol), or water or other contamination of fuel.
- The cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle which has become bogged, regardless of
the Excess Reduction Package taken.
- The cost to replace keys which have become lost, or retrieval of keys which have
been locked in a vehicle.
- The vehicle rented may only be used to cary the maximum number of passengers as
dictated by the vehicle type. If more passengers are carried than what is allowed
Maui does not accept any liability.
- Drivers not identified on the rental agreement and/or that have a licence that
has been cancelled or suspended and/or drivers who have a licence that is classified
as a learners or probationary.
Vehicle Security Deposit or Bond
On pick up of the vehicle, a Vehicle Security Deposit is payable, the exact amount required for your particular situation is shown on your Voucher. For security purposes,only a credit card can be used for payment of bond. The credit card holder must be present and able to sign for the vehicles security deposit upon vehicle collection. The credit card holder is jointly and severally liable for any damage to the rental vehicle.
Credit cards are actually debited for $7500 or $2500/$220/ $440 (4WD vehicles) if excess reduction is taken out, so you MUST have available credit. Debited bonds are subject to the administration fee and is refunded when the bond is refunded. If bond is retained the administration fee is retained. (When American Express card is used for Bond the administration fee is not refunded).
Due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance in the amount
refunded compared to the amount initially charged. Maui does not accept any
liability for variances up or down.
The Security Deposit is fully refundable provided the vehicle is returned on time,to the correct location, undamaged, with a clean interior and with full fuel tank (Fuel being petrol, diesel and LPG gas).
Exchange Rate / Currency Variations
All credit card transactions are conducted in Australian dollars. Due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some
variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged, if you
amend or cancel and also to the bond transactions. Discovery and Maui do not
accept any liability for variances up or down.
Credit Cards
If a credit card is presented as payment, the credit card holder will be jointly and severally liable as a customer. Accepted
credit cards are Visa Card, Mastercard and American Express. A non-refundable 1.75% administration fee will apply to all Visa and Mastercard transactions (4.5% applies to American Express). Debited bonds are subject to the administration fee and is refunded when the bond is refunded. If bond is retained the administration fee is retained. (When American Express card is used for Bond the administration fee is not refunded).
Personal and Company Cheques
Personal and Company cheques will not be accepted as payment for rentals at the time
of pick-up. These must be received by Maui 14 days prior to commencement of
rentals. Personal or Company cheques are not acceptable as the vehicle security
deposit.
Infringements
We reserve the right to charge the hirer for any speeding, parking or tollway fines,
associated administration costs and/or
accidents including third party property damage not reported on return of the
vehicle. The administration fee per fine will
be AU$60.
License
A full open drivers license from your resident country, held for a least one year,
is to be presented at the time of rental. If the license is not in an English
format, an international drivers license must be presented WITH the foreign
license.
Age Restrictions
Drivers must be 21 years of age or over. For drivers over the age of 75, a medical
certificate stating that the customer is
fit to drive for the duration of the hire is required.
Driving Restrictions:
Campervans can only be driven on sealed/bitumen or well maintained roads. No
vehicle shall be driven on Skippers Road (Queenstown), Ninety Mle Beach (Northland),
Ball Hut Road ( Mt Cook), Bluff Road that runs between Kuantunu and Mataurangi and North of Colville Township (Coromandel Peninsula)
Maui reserves the right at its sole discretion to restrict vehicle movements in
certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions.
Change of Vehicle
Should the vehicle booked be unavailable through unforeseen circumstances, Maui
reserve the right to substitute an alternative vehicle without prior notification
and at no extra cost. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not
entitle the hirer to a refund.
Vehicle Category
Vehicles cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle
category.
Voluntary Downgrade
Should the hirer decide to take a lesser vehicle than booked they will not be
entitled to any refund.
Customer Care On-Road Assistance
Any problems associated with the vehicle, including equipment failure, must be
reported to Maui as soon as possible and within 24 hours in order to give Maui the
opportunity to recitfy the problem during the rental. Failure to do so will
compromise any claims for compenstion. We do not accept liability for any claims
submitted after this period.

Cancellation Fee
The cancellation fees are:
- If cancelled up to 22 days prior to pick-up - $50 Admin fee
- If cancelled from 21 to 7 day prior to pick-up - 20% of Gross Rental
- If cancelled 6 to 1 day prior to pickup - 50% of Gross Rental
- If cancelled on day of pick up or No-Show - 100% of Gross Rental
- If vehicle is returned early for any reason whatsoever - No refund
available
Amendments
An amendment fee of AU$50 per amendment is charged when a change to an existing booking is made.
This applies but is not limited to changing the client name, the vehicle type, reducing the number of rental days, changing pick up
dates or changing the pick up or drop off location.
Where the number of rental days is being extended, the amendment fee will not
apply.
Amendments to bookings are subject to availability and different rates may apply based on the amendment made.
Important
Maui reserves the right to refuse any rental at its discretion.
Animals
No animals are permitted in our vehicles, excluding guide dogs.
