Standard Rates

Standard Rates include:

Long Term Rental

The following discounts apply (Discounts to be taken off the 28+ day rental rate):

• 50-99 days = 5% discount
• 100 plus days = On Request

Early Bird Discount

An Early Bird Discount of 5% is given to clients who book a vehicle 120 days prior to the pick up date. This discount applies to the Standard Daily Rate only.

Rental Locations

Kea depots are located in Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin, Perth & Sydney.

Vehicle Pick-Up and Drop-Off Locations

Vehicles must be picked up and dropped off at the Kea rental location.

Darwin branch will be closed between 10 December 2012 - 31 March 2013, due to the wet season.

Rental Duration

Minimum rental period is 5 days (7 days One Way). Mininum rental is extended to 14 days for pick-ups between 20th December & 2nd January. Vehicle rentals are calculated on a per calendar day basis, ie day of pick up or drop off is always counted as a full day irrespective of what time it is collected or dropped off.

One Way Rentals

One way rentals are available subject to the minimum rental periods. No one ways are permitted from Perth or Darwin.

One Way Rental Fee

One way rentals are available between Cairns, Brisbane & Sydney. A one way rental fee may apply. Multiple rentals are treated as separate rentals. The fee is waived when the 'Stress Free Package' is taken.

Multiple Rentals - Minimum of 5 days

Multiple rentals can be combined to qualify for a longer term rental rate. Australia & New Zealand rentals, as well as multiple rentals within one country, can be combined to qualify if travel is within a 12 month period. If the drop off and pick up of a vehicle occurs on the same day then each day will be charged per respective vehicle. Multiple rentals are treated as separate rentals under the one way and minimum rental period conditions.

Standard Liability & Insurance Cover

All KEA vehicles are insured for the damage to the vehicle or to the property of a Third Party. The hirer is responsible for the first AUD $7,500 of the cost of damage to the rented vehicle including windscreen, tyre damage, overhead, under-body, towing and recovery costs, theft, fire, break-in or vandalism. The hirer will also be fully liable for demurrage i.e. the daily rental rate for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs - max 7 days.
The security deposit can be paid by cash, traveller’s cheques and credit card (see paragraph Important: “Security deposit payments by Credit Card”). The security deposit is fully refundable on return of the KEA vehicle to the agreed location, on the agreed date in a clean and tidy condition with no damage incurred to the vehicle, with a full tank of Diesel (4WD dual tank), the toilet cassette and waste water tank emptied and no equipment lost or damaged.
In case of any damage to the KEA vehicle or third party property a second security deposit might be collected to cover the excessfor subsequent damages.

Important: Bond Payments by Credit Card

If the hirer does not choose to purchase a Liability Reduction Option, a bond of  AU$7,500 is taken. This bond is deducted from the customers credit card when they pick up their Kea vehicle. Visa, MasterCard, AMEX and Diners Club are accepted. Visa and MasterCard incur an additional surcharge of 2.0% on any transaction, AMEX and Diners Club 5.0% on any transaction. When the vehicle is returned to Kea undamaged and no third party damage occurred, the liability fee and credit card surcharge is refunded. Like other currencies, the AU dollar does fluctuate, sometimes by up to 5 cents in a period of a few weeks. Fluctuating exchange rates, the difference betewen buy and sell rates charged by banks as well as bank fees, may result in the amount refunded being different. Kea Campers is not liable for currency variations or bank transaction fees which may be payable, depedning on the credit card provider.

Liability Reduction Options

 

Liability Reduction Option  (Gold Cover)

The Liability can be waived for AUD $42 (AUD $47 for 4WD vehicle) per day. The cost is limited to a maximum of 50 days or AUD $2,100 (AUD $2,350 for 4WD).

An AUD NIL liability applies for any vehicle damage, demurrage, cost replacing or repairing windscreens, tyres, overhead and underbody as well as single accident damage. A security deposit of AUD $500 is payable by an open signed credit card imprint with an authorisation obtained (sufficient funds must be available) for AUD $500 at the time of vehicle pickup. The security deposit is fully refundable on return of the KEA vehicle to the agreed location, on the agreed date in clean condition with a full tank of Diesel (4WD dual tank), the toilet cassette and waste water tank emptied and no equipment lost or damaged.

Stress Free Package (Platinum Cover)

The Stress Free Package is only available at the time of booking or prior to pick up. The additional cost per day is AU$61 (AU$70 for 4WD vehicle) per day. The charge is limited to a maximum of 50 days or AU$3,050 (AU$3,500 for 4WD).

The Stress Free Package includes:

A bond of AU$500 is payable by an open signed credit card imprint with an authorisation obtained (sufficient funds must be available) for AU$500 at the time of vehicle pickup. The bond is fully refundable on return of the Kea vehicle to the agreed location, on the agreed date in clean condition, with a full tank of fuel, the toilet cassette and waste water tank emptied and no equipment lost or damaged.

To be booked at time of reservation and payable on vehicle collection.

• Satellite Telephone AU$20/day plus AU$50 for delivery and ALL call charges

• 4WD Recover Kit AU$165 per rental

*Note: Baby, Child or Booster seats cannot be fitted in Kea 2 Berth Toilet & Shower or the Kea 4WD vehicles.

Cancellation & Amendments

In the case of cancelling your reservation, 

• If cancelled 28 days prior to pick up, the deposit is Non Refundable. In addition there is a $100 cancellation fee.
• If cancelled 27 - 7 days prior to pick up, the deposit is Non Refundable. In addition there is a $100 cancellation fee plus 25% of rental (min AU $500)
• If cancelled 6 - 1 days prior to pick up, the deposit is Non Refundable. In addition there is a $100 cancellation fee plus 50% of rental (min AU $500)
• If cancelled on day of pick up or No Show, 100% of the rental

If vehicle is picked up late or returned early for whatsoever reason no refund is available for the unused portion of the hire.

Amendments are charged at a rate of AU$50 per change. This applies but is not limited to changing the client name, vehicle type, reducing the number of rental days, changing the pickup dates or locations. No refund will be given on the initial deposit paid.

If an amendment is made to the rental whereby the length of hire is shortened, no refund will be given on the initial deposit amount nor can it be transferred to the balance payable on pick up. In addition, if an amendment is made inside 14 days of pick up, the rental will be charged at the number of days originally booked. A relocation fee may also apply if the collection or return location is amended.

Changes to the drop off rental location after the rental has commenced must be approved by KEA reservations. If approved a minimum charge of AUD $750 applies

Rental extension, whilst on hire, must be approved by KEA reservations. The extra cost must be paid on confirmation of the rental extension.

If the amendment results in changing vehicle brands your deposit is non transferable.

Where the hire is being extended, the amendment fee will not apply.

Please note that amendments may result in the daily rental rate to be recalculated at the rate applicable on the date of the amendment for the entire rental period.

Change of Vehicle

If, for any reasons beyond control, the reserved vehicle is not available, Kea reserves the right to substitute a comparable or superior vehicle at no extra cost to the client. This shall not constitue a breach of contract and does not entitle the renter to any form of refund.

Vehicle Category Downgrade / Upgrade

Vehicles cannot be requested by model, mileage or age, only by vehicle category*. Should the hirer decide to take a lesser category vehicle than booked within 14 days of pick up or during the retnal, no refund will be paid. In the case of an upgrade the rate difference is payable.

Licence & Minimum Age

A valid full (non provisional) national drivers licence is required. Non-English language national drivers licences must be presented in conjunction with an offical translation or valid international drivers licence. The minimum age is 21 years - no maximum age.

Additional drivers must meet all KEA rental requirements and be at the depot at the time of vehicle pick up and sign the rental agreement.

Travel Restrictions

Two-wheel drive vehicles must not be used on any unsealed road (a road not sealed with a hard material such as tar, bitumen or concrete). The only exceptions to this are well maintained access roads of less than 12 kilometres (one-way) to recognised campgrounds, National Parks and well maintained, recognised roads on Kangaroo Island (South Australia).

Four-wheel drive vehicles are not permitted on any Island in Queensland (including Fraser Island), the Old Gunbarrel Highway, the Lost City in Litchfield, The Telegraph section of the road to Cape York, Boggy Hole (Finke Gorge National Park) and the Old South Road from Maryvale to Finke at any time. Travel to Cape York between the months of December to May is not permitted.

They are allowed on the Canning Stock Route only when part of a guided tour, authorised by KEA. 

Kea does not allow any vehicle contact with salt water, including river crossing. Kea reserves the right at its sole discretioin to restric vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions. We value the well-being of our customers, and for safety purposes, KEA will advise on pick-up of any travel restrictions known at that time.

Smoking & Animal Restrictions

Smoking in Kea vehicles is strictly prohibited, and any offenders will be charged a fume removal fee of AU$500. Animals are also not permitted in any Kea vehicle and the same cleaning fee will apply.

Limit of Liability

If, for reasons beyond control, no vehicle is available to the hirer, Kea's liability is limited to a refund of the hire charge in full. In the case of mechanical failure (unless caused by the hirer), Kea's liability will be limited to the hire charge for the remainder of the hire period.

Repairs

Repairs of up to AU$100 may be effected without authorisation and will be reimbursed. Amounts above AU$100 require approval from Kea on-road assistance.

Traffic Infringements

The hirer is liable for all fines and penalties in relation to the driver's use of the vehicle or the vehicle itself incurred during the rental period plus an administration fee of AUD $60 for each infringement or penalty notice that has been redirected by KEA to the hirer.

Responsibility of the Hirer

The hirer is at all time fully liable for:

• Damage to the vehicle or third party property if the terms of the rental agreement are breached
• Damage caused by carless, wilful or reckless driving incl. speeding
• Damage is caused by driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
• Damage caused due to single vehicle roll over (4wd Only)
• Damage caused by driving on restricted roads
• Damage to or loss of any personal belongings
• Damage caused by part or total fresh or saltwater submersion (creek or river crossing, driving through flooded areas, beach driving etc.
• Damage caused by carrying more than maximum number of passengers as dictated by vehicle type
• Damage caused by drivers not identified on the rental agreement and/or drivers whose licence has
  been cancelled or suspended and/or drivers who have a licence that is classified as a learners or
  Probationary Licence
• Costs associated with the incorrect use of fuel or water or other contamination of fuel
• Cost to retrieve or recover vehicle that has become bogged, submerged or abandoned, including any damage caused at time of recovery
• Cost to replace vehicle keys that have been lost or damaged or retrieval of keys that are locked in the vehicle
• Repairs made to the vehicle without KEA’s permission

In case of any damage to the Kea vehicle or third party property a second bond may be collected to cover the liability fee for subsequetn damages.

In the instances of a manual vehicle being hired, the driver must be a competent and an experienced operator of manual vehicles.

Vehicle Return

All vehicles must be returned to the agreed location, on the agreed date in clean condition with no damage incurred to the Kea vehicle or third party property, with the toilet cassette and waster water tank emptied an no equipment lost or damaged. A fee of AU$250 will be charged if the toilet cassette is not emptied or the vehicle is not returned in a reasonable clean condition.

Vehicle must be returned with a full fuel tank (4WD dual tank). Refuelling at our depot will be charged au AU$2.50 per litre plus a handling fee of AU$25.

First Aid Kit

A comprehensive, high quality First Aid Kit is supplied in each vehicle. If the seal is broken or the kit is not returned, a fee of AU$50 is charged at the time of vehicle drop off.

Rates, Terms & Conditions are subject to change without notice. Whilst including the same facilities, some campervans may have different layouts to those shown. ALl measurements and volumes shown are approximate. The information provided on the website is subject to change without notice.

Any claims or legal action in connection with the provision of Kea's services to the client will be governed by the laws of Australia. Any claim or legal action against Discovery Rentals is subject to the Terms & Conditions as per our contract with Kea Campers.
