Rating : 3
Rating : 3 My partner was initially hesitant about driving what seemed to be such a large vehicle. However, once she tried, I had trouble getting a chance to drive myself. Overall an excellent and easy vehicle vehicle to drive not only on the open road but in town. Whilst the vehicle was 3 star (only due to not having private facilities)it provided us with a 5 Star holiday. Going tent camping again will be limited to an overnight in future.
Rating : 3 The van was fine - the table being up the top under the mattress is difficult to get down and up, but it is a comfortable living space and the kit Britz provided with linen etc had everything we needed in good condition. The DVD tour of the vehicle on pick up is helpful. The pick up and drop of process is slow. The van was challenging to drive in strong winds due to the high top. Overall a good van in good condition.
Rating : 4 We rented twice, once in Darwin and once in Cairns after flying in between. On both rentals, we did not get the euqipment that we should have received for 4 people. In Darwin, we only recieved two chairs. In Cairns, we only received enough dishes for three. On the Cairns rental, the coffee pot and other equipment were also not in the best of repair. Otherwise, the vans were comfortable and clean when we received them.
Rating : 4 A bit uncomfortable up front and the middle seat gets too hot with the engine block to ride on for long. Otherwise handled well, and was well fitted out.
Rating : 1 Couldnt have got much worse. From quite severe electrocution from a faulty power lead to brake failure in the mountains, our van was a symphony of disasters. There was a gas smell in the housing when opened to turn on the gas,so a leaky connection, the trim on the steps was loose, so dangerous, the rubber around the door came off, the curtains on the back window fell off when opened, broken curtain hooks on upper windows, torn upholstery, dirty interior walls etc etc. The brakes squeaked and then completely failed in the mountains. We were stuck for 4 hours waiting for RACT on the road to St Helens, ruining our last day in Tasmania. There was a dent in the side of the van that we noticed half an hour after we picked it up, when I rang to say please put my mind at ease and tell me it was already there, the woman in the Tasmania office went and checked and came back and said No it wasnt there previously. So for the whole week we had the van we were stressed about that.
When we returned the van they said they knew it was there already! No vehicle inspection was done prior to our taking the van. A very stressful week thanks to the Britz van.
Rating : 4 It was globally practical.
Top : easy to drive, many place for our stuff, quite comfortable, the no-worries pack was really good (including table material), the stand at the airport to take it + take it back.
Down : the low reserve of water (less than 30 L), the height of the upper bed, the tremendous consumption of fuel (20 L / 100 kms).
