The Mackay coastline has 31 beaches just begging to be explored. Most of them are accessible in normal campervans, and there are plenty
of campsites to base yourself for evenings on the road. The calm serenity of the Australian beaches quickly makes you forget that there are
no waves to surf, and the white sands are perfect for suntanning, walks or whatever activity takes your fancy. Fishing is extremely popular in
Mackay, both on the coast and in the rivers that cross the hinterland, so be sure to bring your rods and tackle.
The lush hinterland is the perfect playground for you and your campervan. A visit to Eungella National Park is absolutely essential and will
make you feel a million miles away from civilisation. Enjoy the numerous bushwalks here, and look out for the elusive platypus in Broken
River. This is the Australian bush at its finest, home to the best examples of local flora and fauna.
If you feel the urge to park up the campervan and leave the mainland behind for a day or two then you can do just that! Several tropical
islands lie nearby within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, the most visited being Brampton Island. Part of the Whitsundays, Brampton
boasts twelve beaches and is entirely covered in National Park. The snorkelling and diving around it is world class, making this the perfect
day trip for some fun in the sun.
